(Update 14/02/10: Dorsoduro 1200 due Summer 2010)
Following the rave reviews of Aprilia's 750 Shiver, there have been a lot of rumours about an Aprilia 1200 Shiver, so we thought that we'd try and put them into some sort of context.
The base engine from which the 750cc engine is derived was always designed to have a variety of capacities up to 1200cc and to be able to be manufactured in various states of tune.
The current 750 Shiver for example is tuned for ease of use and good manners for its target market of commuters or first big bike buyers. Yet by upping the compression ratio and a more aggressive fuel map, it could be transformed into a handy engine for a sports or track bike.
A 1200 Shiver, with around 130bhp and 88 lb ft, is likely to be next bike in the series to be first seen, possibly at the Milan Motorcycle Show in November 2008. Plus there is potential for sports tourer, adventure, supermoto and sports bikes, as well as other capacities between 750 and 1,200cc.
UPDATE 07/11/08. We didn't get to see the 1200 Aprilia Shiver at the Milan Show, and whilst we're confident that it will be appearing soon, reading between the lines, we think that Aprilia are waiting for more favourable market conditions. Frustrating for you and us, but understandable. It also gives them that extra bit of development time, so it certainly should be worth the wait.
UPDATE 14/02/10. It turns out that the first bike to use the 1200 engine is going to be the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200. We have very little information about it so far except that it'll announced officially soon with availability during the Summer.
